The faithful and joyous INAUGURATION OF THE SACERDOTAL SILVER JUBILEE OF REV. FR. REMISH EKKA, OFM CAPUCHIN was celebrated on 27th April 2025 at Holy Family Church, Thakdari Road, Mission Bazar, Krishnapur, Kestopur, Kolkata. It was a perfect occasion to reflect on the extraordinary journey of this devoted servant of God.

Early Life

Born in the peaceful village of Rasrajpur, Post Karamdihi, District Sundargarh (Odisha), Fr. Remish Ekka was a precious gift to the world from his loving parents, Late Mr. Agnasekar Ekka and Late Mrs. Phulmani Barla.  He was the youngest son among eight children (four elder brothers and three elder sisters). Rooted deeply in Christian faith from early childhood, the values of compassion, humility, and unwavering devotion were instilled in him from a young age.

Journey into Priesthood

Following his divine calling, Fr. Remish was ordained a priest on 29th April 2001 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Sundargarh Parish, Odisha, by Late Most Rev. Alphonse Bilung, SVD, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Rourkela.
This sacred milestone marked the beginning of a life wholly dedicated to Christ and His Church.

Educational Pursuits and Spiritual Formation

Committed to deepening his understanding and service to the faith, Fr. Remish pursued Spirituality and Theology in Rome, Italy, from 2002 to 2005.

This international formation broadened his spiritual horizon and prepared him for greater responsibilities in his future ministry.

Ministry and Leadership

Fr. Remish Ekka’s journey in ministry is marked by impactful leadership and heartfelt service:

  • Assistant Director at the Dharmic Institution of Motihari, Bihar (2005–2008), nurturing spiritual vocations with patience and wisdom.
  • House Superior at Ara Gate, Ranchi, Jharkhand (2008–2014), where he guided and mentored friars under his care.
  • Provincial Minister of the Central East Province, Lucknow (2014–2020). He was elected twice for two consecutive terms of three years each, reflecting the deep trust and respect he earned from his fellow brothers.
  • Principal of St. Francis Academy, Chandakanthal Beria, West Bengal (2020–Present), where he continues to educate, inspire, and shape the minds and hearts of the younger generation.

Throughout all these responsibilities, his leadership has been marked by humility, vision, compassion, and tireless dedication to nurturing faith communities.

Fr. Remish Ekka’s life is a living testimony to God’s grace working through human hands. Whether serving as an educator, spiritual guide, administrator, or provincial leader, he has remained grounded in the Franciscan spirit of simplicity, brotherhood, and service.

As he steps into the 25th year of his priestly journey, he stands as a beacon of hope, a builder of faith, and a living inspiration for all those he shepherds and leads.
